RCMP Crime Map and Monthly Roundup

The RCMP Crime Map allows the residents of Gibbons to access current and verified information regarding criminal incidents in their neighborhood.  

How does the Crime Map Work?

  • The RCMP crime map displays reports of criminal incidents as received by the RCMP within the last 14 days.
  • Crime types presented on the map include: theft from motor vehicle, theft of motor vehicle, break and enter, theft over/under $5,000, mischief and missing persons reports.
  • In the interest of privacy, the exact location of each crime occurrence is not plotted. Locations are estimated to a nearby road.

MONTHLY ROUNDUP

The RCMP are working hard to keep our town and the surrounding municipalities safe!

The following is a summary of some of their activities for the Month of March 2025:

 

On the evening of March 5, several members of Morinville RCMP and Sturgeon County Municipal Enforcement hosted a Coffee with a Cop event in Riviere Qui Barre. This included general discussions on policing, community safety priorities, and careers in law enforcement.

 

On March 14, the School Resource Officer for Morinville RCMP, Cst. Tanner Wills, participated in the production of a lighthearted video with students from Morinville Community High School which was posted on the TikTok social media app. The video has already been viewed nearly half a million times! On the afternoon of March 20, Morinville RCMP arrested a suspect in possession of a stolen 1999 Honda CRV while patrolling near a gas station on Highway 2 west of Legal. The vehicle had been stolen earlier that day while parked behind a residence in Edmonton with the keys inside. The suspect had also attempted to fraudulently use stolen credit cards that had been in the vehicle. The suspect, a 33 year old man from Alexander First Nation, was brought before a Justice of the Peace and released from custody to appear in Morinville Provincial Court on April 17 to face charges of theft, possession of stolen property, and two counts of failing to comply with prior conditions of release. Police are reminding the public to always secure their vehicles and take basic steps to prevent theft.

 

In the early morning of March 26, Morinville RCMP arrested a suspect during a late night patrol in Gibbons for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. A traffic stop led to an investigation which revealed small quantities of Fentanyl and Crystal Meth along with notebooks, plastic bags, and weight scales. A 42 year old man from Edmonton was brought before a Justice of the Peace and released from custody to appear in Morinville Provincial Court on April 10 to face charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, altering/removing a VIN number from a vehicle, and failing to comply with a probation order.

 

On the morning of March 26, Morinville RCMP arrested a suspect who had stolen a 2022 Mitsubishi RVR which was left idling in front of a residence in Morinville earlier that day with the keys inside. The suspect had then proceeded to steal tools from a nearby construction site. The suspect was in possession of the stolen vehicle and tools at the time of his arrest. A 33 year old man from Alexander First Nation was remanded into custody to appear in court to face charges of theft, possession of stolen property, and two counts of failing to comply with prior conditions of release. Police are reminding the public to always secure their vehicles and take basic steps to prevent theft.

 

On the morning of March 31, Morinville RCMP located a stolen mid-2000’s Chevy pickup truck and trailer while on patrol on Range Road 251 east of Morinville. A male suspect was driving the vehicle and attempted to flee from police but was apprehended a short time later. The truck was pulling a utility trailer and had been stolen earlier from St. Albert. A 29 year old man from Sturgeon County is in custody with charges pending of theft, drug possession, and flight from police.
