Gibbons has won the 2009 National Communities in Bloom Award for the 1001 to 3000 population category.
Gibbons, October 7, 2009: Mayor Bill Nimmo is quoted to say “We are proud to announce that the Town of Gibbons has succeeded in winning the National Award for Communities in Bloom. This award category is given to communities from 1001 to 3000 population. Mayor and Council would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all those who had input into our success. Particularly we want to thank our Communities in Bloom Committee and those staff who worked on the project for their valuable input and tireless work.”
The National Communities in Bloom organization has awarded the Town with a 5 Bloom rating and a special mention for the Heritage Tea for Senior Citizens, hosted by the Sturgeon River Historical Society, held on August 12, 2009.
Judges Evelyn Alemanni from Escondido, California and Donna McIImoyle from Newbury, Ontario evaluated the Town on August 12th, 2009.
Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on the protection and promotion of green spaces in urban settings.
